How to Play Qwirkle
Qwirkle is a fun and strategic tile-laying game for all ages. Here you can learn the official rules and get tips for playing online!
Objective
The goal of Qwirkle is to score the most points by creating lines of tiles that share a common attribute—either color or shape.
Game Components
- 108 tiles in six shapes and six colors (three of each combination)
- Each player has a rack that holds up to 6 tiles
Setup
- Each player draws 6 random tiles to fill their rack.
- The player with the most tiles sharing one attribute (color or shape) goes first.
Gameplay
- On your turn, place one or more tiles from your rack onto the board to form a line.
- All tiles played in a single turn must be in the same row or column and must share a common attribute (all the same color or all the same shape).
- No duplicates are allowed in a line (no two tiles can have both the same color and shape).
- After playing, draw tiles from the bag to refill your rack to 6 tiles (if possible).
Scoring
- Score 1 point for each tile in every line you create or extend (including tiles already on the board).
- If you complete a line of 6 tiles (a "Qwirkle"), you earn a 6-point bonus!
- Multiple lines can be scored in a single turn if your tiles touch more than one line.
End of Game
- The game ends when all tiles have been played and no more moves are possible.
- The player with the highest total score wins!
Tips & Strategy
- Try to set up Qwirkles for yourself while blocking your opponents.
- Pay attention to which tiles have already been played.
- Sometimes it's better to play fewer tiles to keep your options open.
